Mr. Middlesex’ title Daniel Samuda

STAR Sports Reporter

Daniel Samuda, of Spanish Town, was last night awarded the “Mr. Middlesex, 1962” title, from a field of eleven contestants in the Physique contest at the Town Hall Spanish Town.

The third “Mr. Middlesex” contest was promoted by the St. Catherine Body-Builders Association of the Jamaica Body-Builders Association. Runners-up to Samuda were Irvine Walker and Clifford Bailey, both of Spanish Town.

The show won praise from members of the J.B.B.A, who spoke highly of the standard of the contestants.

From the first appearance of the contestants it was evident that the judging would be close as all looked in good condition.

The contestants after parading on stage, each gave four poses; facing front erect with arms flexed at shoulders height with body erect showing the chest inflated from the side; with arms fixed at shoulder height giving a full back pose and the fourth optional.

Each looked a winner, until Daniel Samuda sent the audience wild with neat bulging muscles. His closest rival was Irvine Walker, whose performance won him the cup for best poser and best chest.

Clifford Bailey, was also impressive with a fine back-spread. He won the best back.

The other contestants had the necessary developed muscles but apparently lacked the experience and ability of flexing to their best advantage.

Daniel Samuda was awarded the best arms, best abdominals and most muscles prizes and Augustus Ingleton of Manchester the best legs award. Ingleton has much potential.
