What do you get when you fuse the name of Jamaica’s national tree with one of the country’s richest treasures? You get Blue Mahoe Estate Coffee and, years later, a tasty offshoot in the Blue Mahoe Estate Café.

Located in New Kingston, the café boasts some of the richest coffee in the world. “We wanted to give Blue Mountain coffee lovers a chance to enjoy a genuine, single estate coffee,” Manager Shaun Tomlinson told Food of Blue Mahoe Estate Coffee, which is sourced directly from the hills of Portland, specifically the Blue Mountains, and served daily at the café.

Among the scrumptious menu line-up are the Jamcano frappuccino; blended coffee with Jamaican spices; and café limon, a refreshing energy drink filled with real lemon or civil orange and coffee, of course. Smoothies like otaheite and mint, tamarind, and Cool Blue (a proprietary Blue Mahoe smoothie) are also available.

But the drink stealing the show these days is the seasonal mango lemonade smoothie, spurred annually by Jamaicans love for the stone fruit.

“Jamaican mangoes are one of our most loved fruits, so why not have our customers enjoy its goodness on the go, whenever you want, without all the mess?” said Tomlinson.

The eatery also places a Jamaican twist on café favourites such as jerk quesadillas and wraps, chicken and waffles with pepper jelly syrup, red peas soup and chicken soup.

Blue Mahoe Estate Café opened its doors in August of last year, and the reception, Tomlinson revealed, had been incredible. “The customers have expressed excitement and satisfaction at our ambience, food and drinks, especially our local fruits and coffee combos. The refreshing fruits with our famous, one-of-a-kind coffee combination give an unmistakable taste experience,” he said.

COVID-19 might have disrupted the world, but the café sees the silver lining; namely, giving a family business a chance to connect more intentionally with the customers via social media. Through Instagram, the café has relayed important information on new specials, dishes, crowd favourites, seasonal drinks, and deals.

“We definitely strive to create both comfort and convenience. We are constantly developing and expanding our menu. We currently have staple breakfast and lunch items available for delivery via Quickplate, Cutdiline, or simply [by] calling the café directly to place orders. We have heard the demand for expanding our lunch menu, so we have recently added a few Jamaican lunch staples, like curried chicken, fried chicken and escoveitch fish, just to name a few,” Tomlinson said.
