The summer is predicted to be hotter than ever before, but with temperatures rising, coffee lovers still want to cool down.

Coffee Roasters of Jamaica, which was launched in 1991 by principal Mark Fletcher, is known for its distinct flavour — one that can be described as subtle with multilayered hints of honey, florals, and chocolate — making it an attractive choice for Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee aficionados.

It takes very specific and precise growing conditions to produce Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee. Unusual volcanic soil, cool conditions, and a 10-month-long period from bloom to harvest make it the real deal and impossible to replicate.

With this knowledge, Coffee Roasters of Jamaica only buys its ‘joe’ from select local small farmers whose coffee beans are hand-picked and go through a meticulous roasting process to transform green beans and bring out the well-bodied taste.

“We traditionally bought green beans from other processors but decided to begin purchasing coffee directly from small and medium-size farmers in 2013,” said Fletcher. “We made this move to improve the consistency of supply and quality of raw material for our roasting business and to become exporters of Jamaica Blue Mountain green beans.”

The company now exports green beans to international markets such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China.

Understanding that many will still opt for hot coffee even as the heat index rises, we decided to give you, our Food readers, options. Here are some cold coffee-infused drink recipes from Coffee Roasters of Jamaica to cool you down this summer:

Dalgona Coffee or Whipped Coffee

Dalgona coffee or whipped coffee is all the rage on the social media platform TikTok. Whisk boiling water, brewed coffee, and sugar together until coffee is dissolved. Continue to whisk the mixture for two to three minutes until it becomes thick and forms a peak. Pour milk into a glass, and then pour the frothy coffee on top of the milk. Then … ‎Voilà! Dalgona!

Matcha Coffee Latte

Add a teaspoon of matcha powder and one cup of almond milk with ice to a cup with a lid (like a mason jar) and shake. Add 1/2 cup of coffee to the matcha and milk mixture. Add maple syrup, stir, add ice, and serve.

Cold Brew Coffee

Combine coffee grounds with water then let it steep for about 12 hours. Strain the coffee and dilute with as much water or milk as you prefer. Serve over ice, and it will be nice.

Flavoured Coffee

Whether French vanilla, caramel macchiato, hazelnut, or mocha, adding your favourite flavours is a great way to change things up. Your taste buds will thank you. Simply add whipped cream and sprinkles to make your ‘something special’.
