Fire up your blenders fête-loving foodies! In preparation for Carnival in Jamaica 2022, you should be building up energy the smart way. Shakes and smoothies are a quick and convenient way to get a blast of energy-yielding nutrients, including protein, good carbohydrates, and vitamins A, B, and C.

According to ‘The Skinny Chef’ Yassi, for a quick, healthy, energy fix to be consumed as the first meal of the day or post-workout that takes the taste buds on a satisfying journey, as little as three to four ingredients can be used to create both shakes and smoothies.

“Loaded with the essential vitamins and minerals, blending a fruit, nuts or nut-based product like peanut butter; oats; protein-rich milk, like that of oat, almond and cashew or yogurt that I utilise in my recipes, can be an easy breakfast or meal replacement that will hold you for a few hours, or [is] a simple energising snack,” he told Food.

Yassi added, “For persons who will be on the road this Sunday, whether you choose a shake or a smoothie made with superfoods, like the banana, or if you like a little bit of green and a natural sweetener, will have you feeling energised and ready to tackle the day ahead. It’s actually easier and cheaper to whip up at home before you head out on the road, and it can be poured into an insulated cup and you can walk with it.”

Here are two of The Skinny Chef’s smoothie recipes:

Naturally Power Shake

INGREDIENTS

1 cup Naturally Brand Almond Milk

Frozen banana slices

1 cup oats

1 tablespoon peanut butter

DIRECTIONS

Blend properly. The peanut butter may require a longer blending time.

Recommended for vegans or persons who do not eat meat but need a protein boost.

Pascual Berry Fruity Smoothie

INGREDIENTS

Pascual Strawberry yogurt

½ cup blueberries

¼ cup or three strawberries

¼ cup frozen pineapple slices

DIRECTIONS

Blend well and pour into an insulated cup.

Recommended for persons on a low-fat diet and need a burst of energy. Smoothies with fruit or vegetables, on a whole, are great energy boosters for persons that have lessened the amount of fats they consume. The berries have a lot of antioxidants and can power someone through a workout session, or even after.
