Kingston Curry Festival is poised to be a complete culinary experience for patrons and exhibitors alike. Taking place this Sunday at Hope Zoo, attendees can look forward to indulging in good food and enjoy a day filled with live music, and art.

According to Leighton Davis, the event organiser and managing director of Project2Project Consultants, patrons of the Kingston Curry Festival can anticipate a symphony of spices, where traditional flavours seamlessly merge with modern flair.

“From fiery Scotch bonnet to aromatic pimento, every dish is a journey through our rich heritage. Let us join hands with local chefs, relish in authentic music, and celebrate the spirit of Kingston’s culinary magic,” Davis told Food.

Featuring a myriad of over 30 booths, attendees can indulge in the finest dishes from local chefs and restaurants. Food and music enthusiasts alike are invited to feast on their favourite curried delicacies while enjoying exceptional music. The event, themed ‘#GetReadyToNyamn!’, promises to tantalise your taste buds and more, offering a diverse range of delights from lobster and curried goat to curried pig, shrimp, and mangoes.

“Curry is a reminder of the island’s links to India, and the festival attracts visitors from all over the world. It has been called the largest food festival of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. A wonderful way to experience the unique mix of culture that is Jamaica,” Davis said.

Jamaica and the broader region welcomed curry through the arrival of East Asian workers who were brought in by the British, primarily in the 19th century. The culinary traditions of Asia harmonised seamlessly with the West African cuisine that was already established, giving rise to the contemporary tastes and flavours we savour today.

As you excite your taste buds, the lively and charismatic Ity Ellis will serve as the host of the event, ensuring a unifying experience that celebrates Jamaica’s rich culinary heritage.

Meanwhile, the winner of Digicel Rising Stars, Verlando Small, will captivate patrons with his saxophone melodies. As a musical champion, his performance is expected to transform the event into an unforgettable experience. Gospel artiste John Mark Wiggan will ensure the presence of God is honoured at this celebration, scheduled to weave a tapestry of soul-stirring melodies.

Tailored for all age groups, this family-friendly event provides free admission for children 12 years old and under.
