Biomedical celebrates Golden Jubilee with free Health Fair in Portmore
As part of its year-long 50th anniversary celebrations, Biomedical Laboratory will host a free health fair at the Portmore HEART Academy this Saturday, May 26, starting at
10 a.m.
Managing Director of Biomedical Barbara Hendriks said the event is a way of expressing gratitude to the people, as it will take the form of a customer appreciation experience.
"The Portmore community is very important to us. We have many clients in this part of the parish, so we expect a large turn-out of the people we serve. We are delighted at the chance to say, 'Thank you, Portmore, for your support'," she explained.
Hendriks noted that though the health fair is the first outreach of its kind for Biomedical, charity will form a big part of her company's anniversary cele-brations this year.
According to her: "Giving back is a priority in our 50th year of celebration; in fact, with the support of our sponsors, we hope that this health fair can become an annual event."
SEVERAL ACTIVITIES
Through partners such as The Heart Foundation of Jamaica, the Lions Club of Kingston, Ministry of Health (Jamaica Moves), Sagicor, Cari-Med, and the National Family Planning Board, those in attendance will benefit from free blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol tests, as well as eye tests, dental checks, HIV and syphilis tests, among other services.
The day's proceedings will also feature live juicing and cooking demos from sponsors GraceKennedy and LASCO, a kiddies' village and other family-focused activities.
The Biomedical health fair in Portmore is one of a series of activities planned as a part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, which were launched in March of this year. Other activities include participation in the Medical Association of Jamaica's symposium in June, a public lecture at the Kingston Public Hospital in August, and an anniversary gala and award ceremony for staff and partners in September.
