The Gleaner Company kicks off its 180th anniversary celebration with an exciting 5K run/walk on September 13 and two organisations are expected to benefit big from the proceeds.

University Hospital of the West Indies' (UHWI) Physiotherapy Department and PALS (Peace and Love in Society) will each receive a third of the amount made from a minimum of 3,000 paying participants expected to take part in this charitable event.

This was announced at the official launch of the 5K run/walk at the company's head office in downtown Kingston yesterday and responding to the offer, Deputy Director of Physiotherapy Services at the UHWI physiotherapy department, Grace Stephenson, said that most of the money received would be used to purchase resources and to assist the UHWI Day Care Centre.

"What they have decided to give us will take us a far way, because we have a lot of stuff that we need to get done and in time like these, where there is not enough money in the economy, we are grateful to The Gleaner Company and the other sponsors," said Stephenson.

The 5K run/walk is aimed at trumpeting The Gleaner's continuous and consistent support of Jamaica.
