Down to the wire!

Hang on to something, folks! This year's Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships is going down to the wire.

The heavyweights, defending champions Calabar High, and their bitter rivals, Kingston College and Jamaica College, have been swinging at each other all week; none has fallen, and with everything still left to play for after four days of competition, expect a finale worthy of its billing.

The contest is no less intriguing on the female side, with Champs queens Edwin Allen holding off the challenge of a hungry and spirited Hydel camp as they get ready to flex their muscles today and, most likely, confirm their second straight hold on the title, and third in four years.

It's far less straightforward on the boys' side of things.

Calabar, on the prowl for their fourth straight hold on the Mortimer Geddes trophy, have set themselves up for a final push towards a successful defence. But they must be wary of a determined Fortis faithful, as one slip could send the title back to North Street, a place it has eluded since 1999. Oh, how purple hearts would be filled.

Don't forget Jamaica College. They have been far less vocal, doing their damage on the track and in the field.

The final march is on. This is shaping up to be one of the greatest Champs title races in recent history.
