Dennis Chung, the newly announced chairman of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), said yesterday that the primary goal of his team would be to put a proper governance structure in place at the public-cleansing entity, so that there is "greater transparency and the perception from the public is much improved".

Local Government Minister Noel Arscott announced the new board yesterday as he made his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives.

Several members of the board resigned following the decision by then chairman Steve Ashley not to renew the contract or Executive Director Jennifer Edwards after a major fire at the Riverton City disposal site in St Andrew.

Colonel Daniel Pryce is to be seconded from the Jamaica Defence Force to act as interim executive director for six months.
