Students in Western Jamaica pursuing tertiary education can look forward to financial assistance towards their studies with the MoBay City Run once again being held in the second city.

Flow has signed on to be a major sponsor of the MoBay City Run for the second time around. This year, in an even bigger way, the telecoms company says it will continue to invest in the tertiary education of students in the west by donating $1 million.

Another major part of Flow's involvement in 2015 is the #FlowWhyIRun Challenge which was launched on Wednesday.

"Flow is encouraging patrons to take up an active lifestyle of fitness, while at the same time helping to raise awareness for the cause behind the Mobay City Run by asking people to share this video on YouTube," the communications firm said. "The goal is to reach or surpass 5,000 shares after which the broadband company will then give an additional $100,000 to the Montego Bay-based charity to aid a student's development.

According to Nicole Campbell, Flow's sponsorship manager, "the goal behind this campaign is to inspire people to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle while aiding an educational charity at the same time".

She said: "Education is a huge part of Flow's corporate social responsibility outreach and we wanted to bring awareness to the cause."

Campbell continued: "Running is a phenomenon that has taken over Jamaica and what better way to inspire people to run than to use real, live people with real-life experiences, and that's how the #flowwhyirun challenge came about.:"

Additionally, Flow will invest $1.5 million in services towards the staging of the inaugural run.

The MoBay City Run takes place on Sunday, starting at 6 a.m.
