OPPOSITION SENATOR Dr Christopher Tufton is among three members of the Jamaica Labour Party seeking to take over the West Central St Catherine seat when Dr Ken Baugh steps down ahead of the next election.

The other contenders are Councillor Devon Wint and attorney-at-law Kent Gammon.

In a release yesterday, JLP General Secretary Dr Horace Chang said the three applicants were excellent candidates and he was looking forward to a smooth selection process.

Meanwhile, Chang said the party is on course to having all candidates in place by September.

In particular, he said the party would continue to work to settle representation for North East St Catherine and North West Manchester as no applications have yet been received from potential candidates.

North East St Catherine is currently represented by Gregory Mair.

The People's National Party's Mikael Phillips is the sitting North West Manchester member of parliament.
