Passport fees set to increase

Jamaicans interested in applying for their passports will have to pay at least $2,000 more after this week's expected fee hike for applications.

Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) has announced that the fee for a regular adult passport application is to be increased from $4,500 to $6,500. The fee for a minor will move from $2,700 to $4,000.

The new fees will take effect on May 26, but PICA says between today and Friday, May 22, it will only receive applications from customers whose passports have expired, or will expire in six months or less, as well as from first-time applicants. The move is in anticipation of greater demand following the announced price increases.
