Church told to leave Red Hills Mall, ruling under appeal

Greater Works International Fellowship, the non-denominational 'prophetic ministry', which has been operating in the Red Hills Mall, St Andrew, since 2007, has been ordered to move out by this weekend.
The Supreme Court has ruled that the church was operating in breach of the 1985 Strata Covenant of the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation.
However, in its judgment handed down on May 22, the court granted a stay of execution for six weeks, which expires this weekend.
The court ruled that the first defendant, Greater Works Fellowship International, "is restrained by himself, his servants or agents from operating in the strata lots numbered 24, 27, 28, 29 and 30".
In the case of the second defendants, Anthony Renaldo Young and Lorens Joy Young, the court ruled that they, their servants or agents were barred from using, or permitting the premises, Strata 24, of the Strata Plan 305, otherwise known as Red Hills Mall, to be used other than as an office or shop.
The leadership of the church had been battling what it described as a small group of "bad-mind" people who wanted them out.
However, other property owners in the mall charged that the leadership of the church had been "uncooperative" and "unconscionable".
They charged that the church's operation in the mall has resulted in unreasonable interference with the use and enjoyment of the common areas by other proprietors.
The neighbours also complained that the church was causing noise and other nuisance, that the use of shops as a church was a breach of the covenant, and that there were continuing disputes over parking space.
The leadership of the church has reportedly filed an appeal, but attempts to get details were unsuccessful as our news team was directed to Prophet Andrew Scott, who could not be reached for a comment.
