FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

An alleged gunman was killed and three others captured after a brazen shoot-out in Falmouth yesterday. One of the captured men was admitted to hospital in critical condition. A gun was also recovered.

Reports are that police responded to a call that a motorist had been robbed by men travelling in a car. The suspects were cornered by the police at the intersection of Cornwall and Newton streets around 11 a.m. The men reportedly alighted and fired at the police. The police returned fire. Two of the suspects tried to escape in the direction of the sea while the others went in the opposite direction.

Those who headed towards the sea quickly discovered that it was a dead end and grabbed some fishermen as hostages. One of the gunmen was shot dead by a policeman. The other sustained gunshot wounds and up to late yesterday remained under police guard in hospital.

The other two suspects were pursued by the lawmen and were captured hiding behind a wall.
