Manchester woman's throat slashed, buried in shallow grave

Mandeville, Manchester:

Manchester recorded its first murder for the year yesterday, after reports were made about a woman whose throat was slashed before she was buried in a shallow grave.

Dead is Carmalita Dinall, 56, a janitor employed by the Manchester Parish Council. According to Superintendent of Police Vendolyn Cameron-Powell, at about 10 a.m. yesterday, a report was made to the Mandeville Police Station about a dispute that took place at an apartment on Grove Road where the deceased resided with several other persons.

BODILYWOUNDS

A team of police was dispatched to area and after a search of the compound, the lawmen found the body of Dinall under a burnt-out mattress and other debris in a shallow grave.

It is believed that the attacker inflicted wounds to other areas of her body before burying her with plans to then burn the body.

The police took into custody two suspects; one of a Clarendon address, who was about to leave the location with a packed bag; and the other, who is reported to have dug the grave.

Information provided by the police is that a dispute over a dog between Dinall and her attacker may have been the cause of her death.

While investigations continue, the police pleaded with citizens who know of disputes happening in and around their communities to report the matters to the police so that preventative counselling measures can be put in place.
