UPDATED: Golding rejects report he will be NHT executive chairman

Former Prime Minister Bruce Golding has rejected an earlier Gleaner report that he is to become the executive chairman of the National Housing Trust (NHT).

According to ‎Golding, he was never approached to become executive chairman and ‎creating such a post would be a bad idea.

In its manifesto, the Jamaica Labour Party has pledged to reform the NHT, the Housing Agency of Jamaica, and the Jamaica Mortgage Bank.

It also promised to expand affordable housing construction and reduce interest rates on mortgages.

In his 10-Point Plan, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has committed to allowing people to access 60-year mortgages from the NHT, instead of the traditional 25-to-30 year loans.
