Shaw apologises to Auditor General for error in script

Finance and Public Service Minister Audley Shaw has acknowledged that the original script of his closing Budget presentation in Parliament on Wednesday made mention of "the renovation and alteration for office space for the auditor general's office."

A statement yesterday from the Ministry of Finance said reference to the auditor general was "inaccurate".

According to the ministry, Shaw's presentation should have read: "...the renovation and alteration for office space for the accountant general's office".

"We wish to advise that while delivering the closing Budget presentation in the

House of Representatives on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, the minister corrected the error and, thereafter, repeatedly spoke to the Accountant General's Department, which is, in fact, the office that will benefit from the renovation and alteration project being undertaken at the Oceana Hotel," the statement read.

"We further advise that the original script which carried the inaccuracy and was posted to the Ministry of Finance and Public Service's website has been amended to read, on page 20, paragraph 1, lines 4 & 5, the Accountant General's Department.

"We apologise to Mrs. Pamela Monroe Ellis, auditor general, and her team for any inconvenience that this error in the original script may have caused."
