Prosecutors close case in human trafficking trial

Prosecutors have closed their case in the trial of a St Elizabeth couple accused of human trafficking.
Rohan Ebanks and his common-law wife, Venoshia Reeves, are on trial for trafficking in person, facilitating trafficking in person, and rape.
It is alleged that Ebanks went to Haiti and convinced the mother of a teenage girl to send her to Jamaica with the promise of a better life.
It is further alleged that when the child came to Jamaica, she was forced to take care of the couple's children and was sexually assaulted.
Prosecutors Lisa Palmer-Hamilton and Sa-hi Whittingham-Maxwell called 10 witnesses before closing their case in the in-camera trial now under way in the Home Circuit Court.
Lead defence attorney Donald Bryan said he would not call any witnesses but intended to place into evidence the statements the complainant gave to Jamaican police in Haiti.
