Trafigura case for Appeal Court today

Lawyers involved in the Trafigura case have been summoned to appear before the Appeal Court today.
The parties were asked to appear in court after the nation's chief prosecutor, Paula Llewellyn, asked the Appeal Court to strike out an appeal by attorneys for People's National Party (PNP) president Portia Simpson Miller and other PNP functionaries.
The appeal has delayed the Trafigura case for over a year.
Llewellyn told The Gleaner yesterday that she filed an application for court orders on Wednesday. Llewellyn also asked the court to deal with the application as a matter of urgency as the long-delayed Trafigura case is scheduled to be resumed on Monday.
As a result, the parties are expected to appear before the Appeal Court at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
The move by Llewellyn follows an assertion by Simpson Miller's lead attorney, K.D. Knight, that he has a court order barring High Court Judge Justice Lennox Campbell from going ahead with the Trafigura case on Monday.
However, Llewellyn said her office was of the view that there was nothing in place to prevent the case from being resumed on Monday.
"In an abundance of caution, what we thought would be appropriate was to seek to have the input of the Court of Appeal to definitively clarify that issue," she explained.
