Cops in Kamoza Clarke beating for court August 10
WESTERN BUREAU:
The five policemen charged in connection with the 2013 death of Kamoza Clarke will return to the Trelawny Parish Court in Clark's Town on August 10, when documents are to be submitted for the case to go to the Circuit Court.
District Constables Alwayne Eccleston, Onecko Brown, Desmond Lawrence, and Tristan Turner, as well as Sergeant Derrick Henry, had their bails extended and were given the new return date when they appeared before presiding magistrate Ruth Lawrence on yesterday.
The court was told that the defendants' lawyers had been served with preliminary documents in the case, but full disclosure needed to be done to prepare the matter for committal to the Circuit Court. As a result, Lawrence set the matter to be mentioned on August 10.
Eccleston, Brown and Henry are charged with murder in connection with Clarke's death, while Lawrence and Turner are charged with neglect of duty, arising from allegations that they were involved in an attack on Clarke, who was badly beaten while in custody at the Falmouth Police Station on October 20, 2013.
Clarke, who subsequently went into a coma, was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries.
