Prison authorities say inmate who jumped from hospital block showed no suicidal tendency
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) says an inmate who committed suicide at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in Kingston on Monday showed no self-harm tendencies.
The inmate who has not yet been named by the department, reportedly jumped from the second floor of the hospital section at the prison about 2:50 on Monday afternoon.
He was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The DCS says the 50-year-old inmate who was serving a two-year sentence for wounding, had recently developed mental issues.
But it says he did not exhibit any suicidal tendencies.
The department says the matter was reported to the Denham Town Police Station, and is being investigated by the Inspectorate Unit of the Ministry of National Security.
