Three shot dead at bar in Spanish Town violence

Four men were shot yesterday afternoon in Thompson Pen, St Catherine, three fatally, in an incident that the police say could very well be linked to recent violent gang activity, including killings in Spanish Town.
The incident occurred around 12:07 p.m.
According to reports from the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, a group of men were at a location on Jones Avenue when a car drove up. Two men alighted, one with a high-powered weapon and the other with a pistol, and opened fire on the group of persons.
Four persons received gunshot wounds. One died on the spot.
Three others were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where two of them succumbed to their injuries.
The surviving victim, up to late yesterday, was said to be in stable condition.
Despite declaring that it was too early to determine what led to the attack, Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, who is in charge of the CCU, told The Gleaner yesterday that the incident might be connected to recent gang fights and killings in Spanish Town.
"They (detectives) are continuing the investigation. It could be a number of things, and that is why (we are) not eager to call it. It is not isolated to what is going on in Spanish Town, but they (detectives) don't want to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from. They want to do some more investigation," Lindsay said.
