Chairman of the Electricity Sector Enterprise Team (ESET) Dr Vin Lawrence is to step down from the position shortly.

Lawrence told The Gleaner yesterday that he had already discussed the matter with the prime minister.

"I think I am at the stage where we have done all the work we were mandated to do, except for one thing: we have got to finish the financial closing, which we hope to do in December, and once that's finished, others can oversee the implementation," he said.

Financial closing indicates that the project and financing agreements have been signed and all the required conditions contained in them have been met.

In May 2014, the then People's National Party Government appointed Lawrence to lead a team to push the 381-megawatt project. The ESET's terms of reference was to manage the procurement process in collaboration with the Office of Utilities Regulation, the Jamaica Public Service, and the Ministry of Energy.

Lawrence told The Gleaner that he will now spend more time with family and business.
