Deadly start to 2017

The police were last night yet to identify the body of a young man who was stabbed and killed on Constant Spring Road, St Andrew, early Sunday morning in the vicinity of Savanna Plaza.

Reports received are that around 5 a.m. yesterday, the young man, who The Gleaner understands to be a sixth-form student and cricketer at a Corporate Area high school, was walking alone along the roadway when he was approached by a group of men who attempted to rob him. A struggle ensued and the man was stabbed multiple times.

He was assisted to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It is believed that he was relieved of his cell phone by one of the attackers.

This incident has been recorded as the second murder to take place since the beginning of 2017.

Hanover recorded the first murder of the year, the first victim being Bruce Brown, a 39-year-old taxi operator from the parish.

FIRST MURDER

Hanover also recorded another murder yesterday, bringing the 2017 murder toll to three up to yesterday evening.

Tedford Grizzle, otherwise called 'Sprain Eye' of New Town, Hanover, was shot and killed by unknown assailants.

Around 7 a.m., residents found Grizzle suffering from gunshot wounds along a dirt track and summoned the police. He was pronounced dead at hospital.

Superintendent in charge of the Corporate Communications Unit, Stephanie Lindsay, said that despite these murders happening so early in the new year, the police were not alarmed.

"We just have to watch the signals; we just have to look at these cases. We have always put robust systems in place (with) the best strategies, so we will continue to do that," Lindsay told The Gleaner.
