In the wake of the killing of six men by the police, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) says it is now conducting a probe into the incident.

According to INDECOM, the joint operation by the police and military was in response to information about a gang involved in recent shootings in Barrett Town, St James.

In its release yesterday, the oversight body said there was evidence of visible damage to a Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) vehicle.

"Our team, who are still on scene, has been on the ground since late last night (Saturday night) conducting forensic examinations, interviewing members of the security forces, canvassing for witnesses and other investigations," INDECOM stated.

It said the members of the JDF had been cooperative during the investigations.
