13-year-old executed near Heroes Park

Up to last night, police investigators were unable to determine a motive for the execution-style killing of 13-year-old Roshane Smith in downtown Kingston. Smith's body was found at about 7:30 yesterday morning with his hands bound, his shirt over his face, and gun shot wounds to the head.

Investigators theorise that Smith, who lived at premises on nearby Duke Street, was abducted by his killers who shot him, before dumping his body in Eve Lane across from the National Heroes' Park.

Yesterday, Roshane's mother was stoic as she looked at the lifeless body of her son while our news team was on the scene, but neighbours said that she had been inconsolable earlier.

His sister, who was taken from her classroom at a nearby school, could not contain her tears as she fought to avoid looking at the body of her brother.

Roshane's father, who is a popular vendor in downtown Kingston, left the scene shortly after identifying his son's body, and other family members refused to provide any information on the youngster.

Some persons on the scene claimed that he had dropped out of school for some time, while others said that he was a student at a popular school in west Kingston.
