Alleged gang leader among three killed by cops

The reputed leader of the 'One Voice' gang, which operates in sections of Hanover, was fatally shot during a reported confrontation with the police in Mount Pleasant district, Hanover, about 9:30 p.m. last Friday.

The police say 21-year-old Omario 'Duplex' Burrell, who was being sought for questioning in connection with the killing of two children and an adult in Williamsfield, Hanover, last month, was fatally shot when he attempted to avoid being arrested.

A.38 revolver with one .38 round was reportedly seized by the police during the incident.

The matter has been reported to the Inspectorate of Constabulary and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), which is also probing the fatal shooting of two men by the police in the vicinity of Kingston Wharf last Friday night.

According to INDECOM, it has been told that four members of the police force were on operation when they received information about a white AD wagon with men travelling with guns, heading to Portmore.

The driver of a vehicle, fitting the description, was reportedly signalled to stop by the cops but persons in the vehicle opened fire.

When the shooting ended, the cops found that two of the men had escaped while two were found with gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at hospital. The police say one shotgun was recovered at the scene.

"Our team has conducted forensic examinations, one initial account was received from an officer, notices were served for the interviewing of the officers next week, and we are canvassing for possible witnesses," said INDECOM in a release issued yesterday.
