Police death squad trial | Mother gives tearful testimony

The High Court judge presiding over the police death squad trial has ordered that a subpoena be issued for medical practitioner Dr Desmond Brennan.
Justice Jennifer Straw also instructed an investigator from the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) to collect the subpoena and have it served on Brennan.
The subpoena was ordered at the request of prosecutor Melonie Domville, who told the court that she has not been able to contact the medical doctor for several days.
Police constables Roan Morrison and Collis Brown, also known as Chucky, are on trial in the Home Circuit Court for murder and wounding with intent. They were arrested and charged by INDECOM in connection with a shooting incident in May Pen, Clarendon, in February 2010 in which 20-year-old Phaebian Dinnal was shot and killed and another man suffered gunshot wounds.
Yesterday, the court heard tearful testimony from Dinnal’s mother, Annette Smith. Smith recounted that she last saw her first son on February 13, 2010, the same day he was shot and killed. She said Dinnal was at the family’s May Pen home doing household chores before leaving at 2 p.m.
Responding to questions from Brown’s lead attorney, Norman Godfrey, Smith acknowledged that she had another child, Anthony Dinnal, who was also killed.
The trial continues tomorrow.
