The Ministry of Finance and the Public Service is currently conducting an audit of the Auditor General’s Department and will be tabling its findings in Parliament.

Audley Shaw, portfolio minister, made this disclosure this afternoon during a meeting of the Standing Finance Committee of Parliament.

St Catherine South West Member of Parliament Everald Warmington demanded an audit of the Auditor General’s Department, saying he has not seen any evidence that this had been carried out in the past.

According to Warmington, he has been making the request for an audit of the oversight body for the last four years, but the then People’s National Party administration ignored the request.

The auditor general is tasked with the responsibility of assessing the effectiveness of the management of the Government of Jamaica’s financial-management systems and the level of compliance with financial management policies and guidelines.
