In the view of attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie, Portia Simpson Miller's final presentation to the Budget Debate yesterday was a reminder as to why she was elected prime minister.

"She was not short of charisma and empathy, particularly as it relates to the high crime rate facing us and a taxation system that in some instances has proven to be burdensome. However, having identified areas of concern that are impediments to Jamaica's overall development as a nation, Mrs Simpson Miller stopped short of suggesting any real alternatives or solutions to these issues," Champagnie told The Gleaner.

He said that while noting her achievements as a former prime minister, it would have also been beneficial to the nation for her to share, or highlight in a more detailed fashion, solid recommendations towards achieving growth.
