The change of leadership in the People's National Party was among the issues on the platform at the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Area Council One meeting in West Central St Andrew this afternoon.

"It's the same old bus with a different driver," said Portland West MP Daryl Vaz.

He charged that Phillips had been a senior member of a PNP government which has put Jamaica in the worrying position it now is.

"Peter Phillips can't walk in Andrew Holness' shoes," declared Vaz.

He argued that when the JLP left office in 1989, the economy was growing but under the PNP with Phillips in key ministerial posts, there was no growth.

Vaz urged Jamaicans not to be fooled by the PNP's promises of changes under its new president.

"This is just a tried and failed party and Peter Phillips is no different," said Vaz at the conference where Audley Shaw also addressed Labourities.

Earlier, Phillips took the oath of office as president of the PNP during a special delegates' conference at the National Area.
