Man gets two life sentences for murder of St Ann couple, must serve 52 years before parole

Twenty-nine-year-old St Ann man Jo-wane Alexander was today sentenced to more than a half a century in prison for his role in the gruesome killing of a beloved couple in the parish.

Alexander was sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment and has been ordered to serve 26 years on each term before he becomes eligible for parole.

The sentences are to run one after the other, which means Alexander must serve 52 years before he can apply for parole.

Last month, he was found guilty of the 2011 killing of businessman Neville Hall and his wife Normalyn Campbell-Hall inside their Discovery Bay home.

In February, his accomplice Steve Stewart pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

Stewart, who became the main prosecution witness, will be eligible for parole after 17 years.

Prosecutors Maxine Jackson and Maxine Dennis-McPherson led evidence that Alexander and Stewart, who was employed by the couple, attacked them as they entered their home and strangled them to death.

The bodies were dumped in bushes in the community of Lakeside.
