Guardian Life Scholarship is my lighthouse - Recipient

The Guardian Group Foundation yesterday disbursed more than $4 million in scholarships and grants at its annual Grade Six Achievement Test and Scholarships Award Ceremony at its head office complex in New Kingston.
Ten GSAT and four tertiary scholarship awardees along with 17 grant recipients were honoured.
Top boy Alex Gray, a former student of the Kingsgate Preparatory School, will be attending Campion College come September. He hailed the assistance provided in an awe-inspiring response on behalf of the recipients.
"Thank you Guardian Life for providing this scholarship, which will help me to continue my studies throughout the secondary level," he said.
He added: "This scholarship is now my lighthouse and a beacon, a permanent reminder that with discipline and hard work, one can do anything that they choose to put their mind on doing. May the Guardian Life Foundation continue to be a national treasure for students."
Guardian Life has, since 2005, been awarding GSAT scholarships to the top-performing boy and girl from a list of applicants comprising children and legal wards of its policyholders.
The selection is based on criteria established by the Ministry of Education and is administered through the ministry. The scholarship is valued at $250,000 for each recipient and covers the full five-year period at secondary school.
Guardian Life Limited also has a scholarship programme for children of its employees.
The company will, additionally, be offering eight tertiary scholarships valued at $300,000 for three years.
Grateful for scholarship
Top girl Grace-Lee Bolt (Quest Preparatory) is set to begin life at St Andrew High School for Girls, and she, too, was grateful for the scholarship.
"By awarding me the Guardian Life Scholarship, you are enabling me to excel and focus on what is truly important: my education. I do believe Guardian Life is enriching the life of others," she noted.
"Through this scholarship, I endeavour to do my best to enrich the lives of others through community service," said Bolt.
A further 17 GSAT grants, 11 to children of company employees and six others, were awarded to the top boys and girls from Alpha, Denham Town, and Duhaney Park Primary schools.
Eric Hosin, president of Guardian Life, encouraged the awardees to remain focused as the disbursement is a way of giving back to policyholders.
"I want to encourage all of you to enjoy school. Remain focused, but find the right balance between study and play," he urged.
