The police direct traffic at a crime scene in Spanish Town, St Catherine, where five persons were shot, one fatally, yesterday.

Despite a deployment of more than 30 lawmen in Spanish Town yesterday, one man is now dead, while four others - two women and two men - are nursing gunshot wounds at hospital.

Gunmen launched a brazen attack inside the arcade, situated next to the Spanish Town Bus Park, between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Uncertainty surrounds the number of gunmen who carried out the attack, as well as the motive.

Senior Superintendent in charge of the St Catherine North Division Anthony Powell told The Gleaner that more than 30 policemen and women were deployed to the Spanish Town area from in the morning.

"You need to understand that persons will always try and study the police. You have personnel, but you still will not be able to cover every inch and every square of ground," Powell said.
