In celebration of World United Nations Day yesterday, members of UN agencies, funds and programmes in Jamaica gathered at Emancipation Park in New Kingston to jointly stage 'Experience 2030' - an interactive exposition designed to reinforce knowledge on the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through digital tools, interactive displays and a unique village experience.

Exhibitors showcased pro-grammes and projects that are helping to secure the 17 SDGs by the global target of 2030 and engaged patrons with prizes and giveaways.

Among the activities was the Great 2030 Debate, organised by the Jamaica Association for Debating and Empowerment, featuring mixed teams from the University of the West Indies, University of Technology, and the Edna Manley College students debating on the SDGs parliamentary style for a trophy.

Main partners for Experience 2030 were the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the Planning Institute of Jamaica, FLOW, RJRGLEANER Communications Group, and the Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts.

UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.

October 24 has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948.
