Director of Elections Orrette Fisher has agreed to continue in the post until month end, the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) announced yesterday.

According to the ECJ, this is to allow the Supreme Court to hear an application filed by Fisher for an injunction barring his removal from the post.

Fisher's attorney Hugh Wildman revealed on Monday that his client was called to a meeting last Wednesday and told that his tenure ends on October 31.

Wildman said the ECJ also indicated that the post of direction of elections would be advertised.

He said during the meeting, attended by ECJ Chairman Dorothy Pine-McLarty and two of the selected commissioners, no reason was given for the termination of Fisher's tenure.
