Montague ... concerned too that promotions have been awarded to cops who did not sit the required examinations.

National Security Minister Robert Montague says he’s concerned that cops with questionable records have been rewarded with promotions in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Montague says he’s equally concerned that promotions have been awarded to cops who did not sit the required examinations.

The security minister made the disclosure while speaking with reporters this afternoon following the first in a series of consultations on crime.

He says he has raised his concern with the police commissioner who assured him the matter is being given attention.

According to Montague, the administration is very concerned about the lack of transparency in the system of promotion in the JCF.

He says despite recent promotions he’s still not happy that several members of the Force cannot benefit from upward mobility.

The JCF recently announced a raft of promotions following repeated public criticism from Montague.
