NCB partners with Food For The Poor for Dominica

The National Commercial Bank (NCB) Foundation is among the entities calling on Jamaicans to support relief efforts for Caribbean neighbour Dominica.

The philanthropic arm of Jamaica's largest commercial bank has joined forces with local charity organisation Food For The Poor Jamaica to collect supplies through its expansive branch network serving as drop-off points. Emergency supplies such as batteries, flashlights, tarpaulins, blankets, non-perishable and canned food items, and water are some of the necessities that may be donated.

Persons can drop off items at any NCB or Advantage General Insurance Company branch islandwide. They may also make cash donations to Food For The Poor through NCB account 471043885, St Jago branch.

The small island suffered devastating damage after Category 5 Hurricane Maria last month lashed the country. More than 20 persons have since lost their lives, with many missing, thousands left homeless, or without electricity, running water, or food.

"As at other times, we have joined with Food For The Poor Jamaica because like them, serving communities remains at the heart of what the foundation does. Living in a global and interconnected space, Dominica falls within that bracket as our neighbours," said Nichole Brackett Walters, NCB group marketing and communications manager.

"The devastation they have experienced is unimaginable and the need great. As a country, we must do what we can to assist. So whether it's an extra can of food, batteries, or a few bottles of water, we are asking Jamaicans to support. Every little bit helps," Brackett Walters added.

Several relief efforts are in place to assist Dominicans recover from the destructive hurricane and to help rebuild homes and businesses. Officials say it will take several years and billions of dollars to restore the island to its former state.
