CBU - Regional broadcasting stalwart
The Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) yesterday offered a tribute in memory of its 'Hall of Famer' and regional broadcasting stalwart, J.A Lester Spaulding.
He was president of the CBU from 1987 to 1991. During his term as president, he formed a relationship with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, which led to the establishment of a television production and news exchange facility, including the CBU's acquisition of its own domestic satellite uplink.
He also contributed to the development of the Caribbean News Agency (CANA) as a director until 2011, and nurtured the formation of the Caribbean Media Corporation, being its inaugural chairman in 2000

The Association of Caribbean Media Workers has joined with media colleagues throughout the region in mourning the passing of Caribbean media industry leader, Lester Spaulding.
Mr Spaulding received numerous awards for his service to regional media. He was recognised by the CBU Hall of Fame and is the holder of a Caribbean Media Corporation Award of Excellence for Leadership.

The Broadcasting Commission is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the chairman of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group, J. Lester Spaulding.
Mr Spaulding had a stellar career in media administration and was widely respected as a pioneer and shrewd manager.
The Broadcasting Commission worked closely with Mr Spaulding, most recently in his capacity as Co-chair of the National Digital Switchover Steering Committee.
His passing has left a permanent void in the broadcasting fraternity.
