The police are claiming a massive breakthrough in dismantling one of Jamaica’s most sophisticated and ruthless criminal outfits, the Terrence Gang.

It says the gang’s reach extends into seven parishes and it has been responsible for several murders, shootings and rapes.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey, who heads the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime (CTOC), told reporters at a press conference Monday afternoon that it has arrested 25 of the 40 members of the gang it has identified so far.

He says 15 of them were arrested during a police operation on Saturday.

Among those arrested are three women and a police corporal.

ACP Bailey says the Terrence Gang is involved in a variety of criminal activities, among them, rapes.

According to Bailey, the group worked with a particular company to dispose of a significant portion of the stolen items.

He says in some cases, persons close to the victims helped to organise the robberies.

Bailey is appealing to gangs members who feel like they have been entrapped and want an escape route to call CTOC at 967-1389.
