Chandiram hailed for love for people

His extensive work with the Hosana House and Children's Pilgrimage Trust (HCPT) was one of the many things that stood out in the minds of mourners who came out to celebrate the life of Pokar Chandiram at his thanksgiving service yesterday.

At the service, which was held at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity in downtown Kingston, Chandiram's love for faith, family and giving back were at the core of memories and testimonials for those who gave tributes.

His son, Anup Chandiram, noted that though he was saddened by the passing of his father, he was proud of the legacy and the exemplary life he led during his sojourn.

"I have always admired his love for his family. We were his priority. He cherished every moment of his life and made sure that he impacted the lives of those he came in contact with, no matter how small," Anup Chandiram said.

Guided by faith

"He did a lot for the less fortunate and did so without the need to be recognised. He was instead guided by his faith and served from his heart," he said.

In a written tribute, the management of the HCPT recalled Pokar Chandiram's contribution in boosting the organisation's reach globally, expressing gratitude for his selfless dedication.

"Speaking with HCPT's founder, Brother Michael (Strode), yesterday, he was so thankful for your father's key role in making HCPT the international charity it is today. His setting up of the West Indies group showed just what was possible and inspired many others around the globe to get involved," the management said in the tribute.

"His passion has allowed hundreds of disabled children in the Caribbean to have the opportunity to enjoy a life-changing pilgrimage to Lourdes (France)."

Donations that were collected will aid in funding visits to Lourdes by four disabled children.
