PNP gets ready for another by-election

The People's National Party (PNP) says it has identified a proposed candidate to run on the party's ticket in St Andrew North West if a by-election is called for that constituency.

This comes in the wake of the pending resignation of Jamaica Labour Party stalwart and Member of Parliament for St Andrew North West, Derrick Smith.

Julian Robinson, the PNP's general secretary, said that someone has showed interest in the constituency and the party is taking steps to name the individual as the caretaker.

Refusing to disclose a name, Robinson said that by Monday, the party would be in a position to name the individual.

The PNP general secretary indicated that more than one person has expressed an interest in the seat, but noted that "there has been one who has been in the constituency and has been meeting with persons, so I would say that person would be the more likely person".
