March 5 by-election for St Andrew North West

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced March 5 as the date for the by-election in St Andrew North West for constituents to elect a replacement for Derrick Smith who has resigned after 29 years.

Nomination Day is February 12.

Businessman Dr Nigel Clarke of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) will ‎be challenged by Padmore Primary School Principal Keisha Hayle of the People's National Party.

Holness announced the ‎by election Sunday evening at a JLP Area Council One meeting at the Pembroke Hall Community Centre in St Andrew.

He also declared that a by-election for the Norman Gardens Division in Kingston will be held on March 5.

Nomination Day is also February 12.

The di‎vision became vacant last year when Angela Brown Burke resigned as councillor to run as Member of Parliament for St Andrew South West, previously held by former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller.
