Female cop charged for killing unarmed man

Woman Constable Melissa White has been arrested and charged with murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice after prosecutors claimed that she fatally shot an unarmed man in Cross Roads, St Andrew, last year then lied to investigators about how the incident had unfolded.
According to Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn, the shooting was captured on closed circuit television cameras that were mounted at a nearby business place. White, who was assigned to the Cross Roads Police Station at the time of the June 2017 shooting incident, has been granted bail in the sum of $500,000 and is to return to court later this year for a hearing to determine whether the case should be transferred to the Home Circuit Court.
Prosecutors, in outlining the allegations against her, said that 45-year-old Edwin George Brown appeared to have stolen a bottle of oil from a supermarket in the Cross Roads area and was running from the store.
According to prosecutors, White used her motor vehicle to block Brown's path, causing him to lean against the passenger door with his hands held above his head. It is reported that several shots were fired and the man fell to the ground. Prosecutors claim that White exited the vehicle and looked at Brown's body before getting back in the vehicle and driving away.
However, sources say that the female constable told investi-gators that Brown was shot by unknown assailants who fled the scene.
