Youthlink seminar boosts confidence of CSEC exam students

Many fifth- and fourth-form students from high schools across the island have received a confidence boost heading into mathematics and English external exams next month, following yesterday's Youthlink Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) seminar at the Mico University College in Kingston.
With the knowledge and practice they received at the seminar, the students gave it a thumbs up.
"I am feeling much more confident and motivated now, going into the exam," St Jago High School fifth-form student Jewel Collins told The Gleaner. "Our teacher brought us here to the math seminar to help us learn how to tackle some of the new questions," she added.
Her schoolmate, Jamani Richards, said: "The seminar lets me understand how to split triangles in parts and work out the angles. I didn't really understand that. I understand better now."
BETTER GRASP OF ENGLISH
Letter-writing should become an easy task for Ewarton High School's Tajay Jones, who said that before the seminar, he had issues putting words together on paper well.
"I didn't really know how to structure a letter, nor did I know how to write a story well. This seminar has helped me to know how to use persuasive techniques and other things that I know will be useful," Jones related. "In the math segment, I gathered information I didn't really understand when my teacher explained."
Kirk Dawkins, fourth-former at Ascot High School, who will sit the mathematics exam, said: "The seminar was helpful. I learned lots of new topics and I now have a better understanding."
Fellow Ascot High fourth-former Anneke Walker said, "I already knew all they taught in there, but, at least, I got good practice."
