Five per cent jump in murders

Four hundred and forty-two murders have been committed across Jamaica between January 1 and April 21 of this year, a 5.2 per cent increase when compared with the same period last year when 420 were killed.
According to the latest statistics compiled by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the number of persons killed in Portland increased to five, up from one last year - a 400 per cent jump.
Similarly, homicides continue to spike in the St Andrew South constituency, with 65 persons killed, a 261 per cent increase when compared with the 18 murdered last year.
There was a nine per cent decrease in the number of rounds of ammunition seized, with 3,922 compared to 4,316 last year.
Gun seizure saw a marginal 11.5 per cent decrease, with 237 compared to 268 last year.
Reported cases of shooting declined by 4.2 per cent, robbery fell by 1.4 per cent, and break-ins dropped by 6.6 per cent.
Rape declined by 32.6 per cent, while aggravated assault was down by 45.3 per cent, and larceny fell by 21.4 per cent.
