JC sixth-former says evil forces targeting kids

When Jamaica College sixth-form student Fabian Morris gave reflections at a Child Month service in downtown Kingston on Sunday, he asserted that Jamaica's children continued to die under violent circumstances because evil powers were at work.
The Gleaner spoke to him following the service that was held in memory of children who have been killed under tragic circumstances. More than 15 children have been murdered since the start of this year.
"There are things that lurk at day and at night. I have been through spiritual experiences," Morris said. "So, I understand. In this present day and world, there are forces at work that put our nation in this bad state. Not everyone might have this belief, but with all that I have been through, I know that there are evil forces at work."
Robert Hill, chief executive officer of the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation, supported Morris' view, saying: "There are, in fact, spiritual forces at work. They continue to set traps and other devices for the downfall of our children. We have to rise to the responsibility, to ensure that we protect them," he told The Gleaner.
Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kingston, Kenneth Richards, told The Gleaner yesterday that "There is a spiritual connection, yes, but every man is free. Those persons who are committing these kinds of crime have lost a sense of their own self."
He said, "Ultimately, they are going to suffer when the security forces catch them or when persons retaliate against them for what they have done, and ultimately when they face God. Everything is their choice."
