Victim welcomes Lawrence ruling

Kaon Northover, the business-man at the centre of the dispute with the now-disbarred attorney Minette Lawrence, has welcomed Saturday's ruling by the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council.
"I am happy and relieved that this case and the stress it caused me are over," Northover told The Gleaner.
"The incident happened when I was 22, and now I am 32, and it is like a mountain has come off my shoulders. This case is a clear victory for morality and integrity, and it shows that there are people out there who are willing to uphold justice," added Northover.
The businessman and his company, K Ann JSA, which is registered in the British Virgin Islands, filed a lawsuit in 2013, contending that in June 2008, Lawrence advised him to lend US$400,000 to a foreign company to assist in the refinancing of the Jamaica Railway Corporation (JRC).
According to Northover, he was Lawrence's client at the time, and she held out herself as being competent to advise him on legal, investment, and financial matters.
Northover charged that Lawrence told him to invest US$400,000 for 45 days and the money would be returned with 33.3 per cent interest, which would be US$132,000.
He said that he had lost millions of dollars in business because of Lawrence's actions.
