Two new ambulances for St Ann’s Bay, Port Maria hospitals

The North East Regional Health Authority (NERHA) recently handed over two newly retrofitted ambulances, valuing more than $24 million, to the St Ann's Bay Regional Hospital and the Port Maria Hospital to supplement the existing fleet in the region.

Chairman of NERHA Tyrone Robinson handed over the ambulances to Leo Garel and Lorraine Brown-Wright, CEOs of the respective hospitals.

They both expressed delight at the presentation, pointing out that the need for ambulance services had increased dramatically in recent times and the new units would allow the hospitals to respond more readily to emergencies.

Regional Director for NERHA Fabia Lamm, speaking at the handing over, said that the authority was committed to improving its fleet to positively impact patient care and meet the growing need for transportation to access vital services.

"In this regard, the region will continue to replace its aged fleet on an incremental basis through its own resources as well as with the aid of advocac, to achieve this critical objective," Lamm said.

The cost for the ambulances was covered totally by NERHA.
