Tang committed to supporting 2018 GSAT achievers through scholarships

Three young scholars from Jamaica's three counties have received monetary support from Tang to lighten the burden of back-to-school expenses.
Vittania Bedward from Mico Practising Primary and Junior High in St Andrew, who will attend the Immaculate Conception High School in St Andrew, scored 100 per cent in math, 100 per cent in communication task, 98 per cent in social studies, 100 per cent in science, and 97 per cent in language arts.
Khadedra John from Southborough Primary in Portmore, St Andrew, who will also attend Immaculate, scored 100 per cent in math, 100 per cent in communication task, 100 per cent in social studies, and 97 per cent in science and language arts.
Tai Grant, from Black River Primary and Infant in St Elizabeth, will move on to Munro College in St Elizabeth. He scored 100 per cent in math, 92 per cent in communication task, 98 per cent in social studies, 97 per cent in science, and 100 per cent in language arts.
Each received a cheque for $50,000.
PROUD OF STUDENTS
Tang's brand manager, Shellian Thompson, told The Gleaner at yesterday's presentation ceremony that she was proud of the children's excellent performances.
"Today, we are celebrating and awarding our Grade Six Achievement
Test scholars. They have performed exceptionally well, especially in the area of mathematics. We recognise their stellar performance in other subject areas, but it is really a math award," said Thompson.
"We partner with the Ministry of Education, and persons are selected by the ministry. The criteria say they must not receive any other scholarship and they must also score 100 per cent in math. Most Jamaicans fear that subject area, so we partner with the ministry to encourage persons to embrace the subject area," she added.
The Tang GSAT awards have been in existence now for seven years.
